Abstract:Objective To compare the effect of colon cleaning with two different dietary regimens intended for colonoscopy. Methods One hundred and fifty patients undergoing colonoscopy were randomized into two groups in a prospective,single-blind,and controlled trial.Patients of group A received a prepakaged diet while group B received a self-made low-residue diet .All the patients received 4 liters of compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte power(PEG) on the day of colonoscopy. Results The colon cleanliness of the prepackaged diet group was better than that of the low -residue diet group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). the cleanliness of the left colon and the right colon was better than that of low-residue diet group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in transverse colon cleanliness between the two groups. Conclusions The prepackaged diet is safe, effective and superior to the low-residue diet for bowel preparation for colonoscopy, and can be used by larger populations.
