Abstract Objective To identify the overall satisfaction rate in patients after posterior stabilized TKA and the satisfaction rate of particular functional deficits or residual symptoms. Methods 1465 patients who received primary posterior stabilized TKA in this hospital were investigated. A Total Knee Satisfaction Questionnaire consisting of the overall satisfaction with surgery and the satisfaction rate of each of 15 specific functions and residual symptoms was developed, validated and mailed to these patients at least 1 year after knee replacement. Results The questionnaire was returned from 1173 patients (1588 posterior-stabilized TKAs). The overall satisfaction rate was 87.3%. The top 6 unsatisfactory items were sitting with legs crossed (dissatisfaction rate of 55.2%), squatting (52.1%), walking fast or jogging (45.2%), knee noise (34.6%), abnormal feeling in knee (31.4%), and mounting stairs (28.7%). Conclusions Approximately 1 in 8 patients are dissatisfied with overall outcome of their primary posterior stabilized TKAs. A low 1-year WOMAC pain score significantly influences patient dissatisfaction.
