Abstract Objective To investigate the relationships between family function, anxiety and depression in patients with spinal cord injury. Methods Totally 71 patients with spinal cord injury treated in a rehabilitation center of a hospital in Beijing between October 2017 and April 2018 were investigated using the demographic information questionnaire, disease related information sheet, the Family FAD, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). Results The family function score of SCI patients was (2.19±0.23), the average score of anxiety was (56.04±13.81), and the average score of depression was (60.04±14.21), so there was a significant correlation between the depression level and the anxiety level (r=0.66, P<0.001). Family function scores of SCI patients were positively correlated with anxiety and depression, and the correlation coefficients were 0.489 and 0.504 respectively (P<0.01). Conclusions The results suggest that providing sufficient love and care may help prevent and relieve anxiety and depression among patients with spinal cord injury.
