Therapeuticeffect of blunt separation combined with conjunctival flap transplantation of adult stem cells forrecurrent pterygium |

Abstract Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of blunt separation combined with conjunctival flap transplantation of adult stem cells forrecurrent pterygium. Methods A total of 130 patients with recurrent pterygium surgery from December 2019 to December 2022 were selected and dividedinto two groups. The control group underwent conventional isolation + adult stem cell conjunctival flap transplantation, while the observer group underwent blunt isolation + adult stem cell conjunctival flap transplantation. Ocular symptom score (OSS), visual analogue score (VAS), corneal Shimmura score, recurrence and complications were compared between the two groups. Results On day 1, 3, 5 and 7 after surgery, OSS, VAS and Shimmura scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the abovethree scores significantly decreased with the extension of postoperative time (P<0.05). Six months after surgery, the recurrence and subnodal valve bleeding in the observation group accounted for 3.08% and 1.54%, respectively, while the percentage for the control group were 24.62% and 30.77%, respectively. Observation group was less prone to recurrence than control group (P<0.05). The incidence of corneal sclerolysis and conjunctival granuloma in the observation group were 1.54% and 1.54% respectively, while the incidence for the control group were 4.62% and 18.46% respectively. Compared with the control group, the complications of observation group significantly reduced (P<0.05). Conclusions Blunt separation combined with conjunctival flap transplantation of adult stem cells is characterized bya good therapeutic effect forrecurrent pterygium, which is worth promoting in clinical practice.
