Abstract: Objective To study the clinical application and integration of PACS and HIS in “No 1 Military Project”. Methods A medical imaging information system was built up by connecting PACS which consisted of digital imaging devices, such as CR, DR, CT, DSA, MRI and ultrasonic instruments, with HIS in “No 1 Military Project” under DICOM 3.0 standard interfaces. Results Medical pictures could be transferred freely between 109 workstations at each department of the hospital, including 42 PACS-HIS workstations and 67 HIS workstations. Integration of PACS with HIS in “No 1 Military Project” was achieved, which enabled the sharing of medical information resources. Conclusions Integration of PACS with HIS improves the overall management of the medical imaging system, leading to the reduction of the total cost of the hospital. It plays a key role in the medical imaging system, clinical practice, medical education, and remote medical consultation.
