Abstract: Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of percutaneous coronary intervention with EXCEL stents for elderly patients with small vessel coronary artery disease. Methods Patients were assigned into small stent group(<3 mm,297patients) and larger stent group (≥3 mm,405 patients). The pre-specified primary outcome was the rate of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) at 6, 12 and 18 months. Results At 6 to 18 months, there was no significant difference between the two groups in MACE,stent thrombosis or Cardiac death (P>0.05).The small stent group had higher stent thrombosisrate than the large stent group(P<0.05). Conclusions This study demonstrates not only the clinical safety and efficacy of biodegradable polymer based sirolimus-eluting stents. in elderly patients with small vessel coronary artery disease, but also a higher stent thrombosis rate in the long-term outcome.
