Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of snoring on sleep quality of pregnant women during the third trimester. Methods 126 third-trimester pregnant women were divided into two groups: pregnant women who snored (n=85) and those who did not (n=41). Then sleep quality was surveyed. Results The frequency of snoring was 32.5%. Night-time sleep duration was significantly shorter in pregnant women with snoring than those without snoring. Daytime sleep, sleep latency and night urination were significantly more frequent in snoring pregnant women than those without snoring(P <0.01). Pregnant women who snored awoke much more frequently at night, with more mouth breathing and sleep sweat (P<0.05). Pregnant women with snoring had much more difficulty falling asleep than those without snoring (P<0.01) and had significantly higher frequency of epworth sleepiness scale ≥ 9 than pregnant women without snoring (P<0.01). Conclusion Snoring is a common symptom among the third trimester pregnant women and affects sleep quality.
