Irregular antibody screening analysis of results before transfusion

Abstract:Objective To investigate the distribution of irregular red blood cell antibodies, the detection rate and the irregular antibody specificity among patients in Yangzhou area. Methods From January 2010 to December 2012, 18 625 patients in Armed Police Forces Jiangsu Corps Hospital or clinic patients were examined by antibody screening method, application of saline, antiglobulin method, polybrene method for detection of irregular antibodies, and the positive screening results against the identification of antibody specificity. Results Irregular antibody were identified in 136 cases, accounting for 0.73% of the total screened population, of whom 21 were male, 115 female. Irregular antibodies were autoantibodies in 45 cases and homospecific antibodies in 77 cases. Conclusion Patients with irregular antibodies have blood transfusion history and, for pregnant women, autoantibodies mainly occur in the elderly and in patients with autoimmune disease.
