Abstract:Objective To evaluate the association between obesity and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) among Chinese population. Methods The literature about the association between obesity and prevalence of GERD among Chinese population were searched in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria up till to December 2013 in electronic databases CBM, CNKI, VIP and Pubmed. The data in nine cross-sectional studies selected were analyzed by Stata 12.0 software. Results There was a significant association between increasing body mass and prevalence of GERD with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.82 (95% confidential intervals: 1.27-2.62). Conclusions Obesity increases the occurrence of GERD among Chinese population. Obesity is one of the risk factors of GERD.
