Abstract:Objective To observe hemostatic effects of PAA-CS(poly(acrylic acid)-chitosan) superabsorbent sponge on SD rats fed on warfarin after their tooth extraction, discussing the advantages of PAA-CS superabsorbent sponge applied for tooth extraction wounds. Methods Group A,a model of tooth extraction wounds of SD rats, and Group B,a model of tooth extraction wounds of SD rats with coagulation function abnormality, were established to carry out hemostasis on tooth extraction wounds with a negative control group using gauze tampons. Hemostatic effects of PAA-CS superabsorbent sponge and gauze cotton balls were compared. Results By four coagulation tests, the coagulation function of rats in Group B became abnormal. During the examination of hemostasis of tooth extraction wounds, the time used for hemostasis by the PAA-CS Superabsorbent Sponge(about 60 s) was significantly less than that by gauze tampons(>90 s,P<0.01). After the PAA-CS superabsorbent sponge was used to stop bleeding of tooth extraction wounds in the bleeding model of rat tooth extraction wounds, there was no secondary hemorrhage and its hemostatic effect was reliable. Conclusions This examination established a model of tooth extraction wounds of rats fed on warfarin resulting in abnormality of rats’ coagulation function successfully. The hemostatic tests have proved that the hemostatic effect of PAA-CS superabsorbent sponge is much better than that of gauze cotton balls.
