Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of glaze on relative translucency of B, C color IPS e.max LT core material. Methods Disc-shaped base material IPS e.max LT samples which were 0.3mm and 0.5 mm thick were prepared and divided into eight groups by color number B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2, C3, C4, n=5. 0.3 mm-thick dentin porcelain of the same color as the base material was decorated over the surface. Finally, all the samples were glazed and sintered. Relative translucency was determined using a spectral colorimeter and statistically analyzed. Results Analysis results of samples of color B and C showed that thickness was a significant factor for their relative translucency (P<0.05). Using the same color, relative translucency of 0.8 mm groups was higher than that of 0.6 mm group (P<0.05). For samples of 0.6 mm, glazing with color B significantly decreased relative translucency (P<0.05), but had no significant effect on samples of 0.8 mm (P>0.05)except group B4. For color C, glazing had a significant effect on relative translucence of groups of 0.6 mm excepted C3 groups (P<0.05). For groups of 0.8 mm, glazing showed significant effect on C1 and C4 (P<0.05), but not on C2 and C3 (P>0.05).Conclusions The thickness ratio of core materials to dentine porcelain contributes to match color and relative translucency between all-ceramic restoration and natural teeth. Glaze can improve the transparency of all-ceramic restorations their aesthetic effect.
