Abstract：Objective To explore the expression and clinical significance of retinal dehydrogenase 1(ALDH1A1) in gallbladder carcinoma.Methods The expressions of ALDH1A1 were detected in 59 specimens of gallbladder carcinoma tissues,7 specimens of adjacent non-tumor tissues and 6 specimens of chronic cholecystitis tissues by tissue microarray technique and immunohistochemistry.Results In 7 specimens of adjacent non-tumor tissues and 6 specimens of chronic cholecystitis tissues, there was a positive expression of ALDH1A1. The expression of ALDH1A1 was not detected or weakly positive in 59 gallbladder carcinoma tissue specimens and the positive rate was 62.7%(37/59). The positive rate of ALDH1A1 in tissue specimens of gallbladder carcinoma was significantly lower than the expression in the adjacent non-tumor tissues or chronic cholecystitis tissues(P<0.05). ALDH1A1 was negatively correlated with disease progression and tissue differentiation, and there was significant difference in levels of expression (P<0.05).Conclusions The expression of ALDH1A1 in gallbladder carcinoma tissues is negatively correlated with the progression of disease and tissue differentiation.
