Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical features, results of laboratory examinations and image manifestations of non-alcoholic Wernicke’s encephalopathy so as to update our knowledge of the disease for early diagnosis. Methods Clinical data of twenty patients with non-alcoholic Wernicke’s encephalopathy were analyzed retrospectively. Results After the supplement treatment with vitamin B1, ten patients were cured, seven got better but with different neurological sequelae, two died, and one gave up treatment following recurrence of gastric cancer. Conclusions Non-alcoholic Wernicke’s encephalopathy is a disease with delitescent onset and complicated clinical manifestations so that misdiagnosis is not uncommon. Early diagnosis and timely supplement treatment with vitamin B1 can be the key to better prognosis.
