Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of Shaoyaogoutengmuer Tang in the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia. Methods Eighty patients with primary trigeminal neuralgia who were treated in the hospital between March 2016 and March 2017 were selected. Forty of these cases were treated with carbamazepine (control group), and the rest were treated with Shaoyaogoutengmuer Tang (observation group). The therapeutic effects and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The effective rate of the Shaoyaogoutengmuer Tang group was 82.5%, compared with 72.5% in the control group.Eleven cases were regarded as invalid. There was no significant difference in VAS scores or LSI-B scores between the two groups before treatment. After treatment of 4 weeks, the VAS score of the Shaoyaogoutengmuer Tang group (2.9±0.9) was lower than that of the carbamazepine group (3.2±0.8), while the LSI-B score of the Shaoyaogoutengmuer Tang group (16.0±2.6) was higher than that of the carbamazepine group (13.6±3.3). Conclusions Shaoyaogoutengmuer Tang has a lower VAS score but a higher LSI-B score than carbamazepine in the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia. Shaoyaogoutengmuer Tang causes fewer adverse reactions and is superior to carbamazepine, which is a safe and effective treatment.
