Abstract:Objective To study the therapeutic effect of C-pilot files in combination with ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) when used for dredging molars with calcified root canals. Methods Eighty-nine mandibular posterior molars with 284 root canals from 78 patients who were treated in our department between October 2014 and October 2017 were randomly divided into two groups. The calcified root canals in the treatment group were dredged with C-pilot files in combination with EDTA, and those in the control group were dredged with ordinary stainless-steel K files with EDTA. The success rate of root canal dredging and incidence of root canal deviation, root canal-side wear and instrument fracture were observed. Results The success rate of root canal dredging in the treatment group was 84.72%, and the incidence of root canal deviation was 12.50%,compared with 65.71% and 11.43% in the control group, so the success rate of root canal dredging in the treatment group was high, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01), but there was no significant difference in the incidence of root canal deviation between the two groups. Conclusions The success rate of root canal dredging can be improved using C-pilot files and EDTA.
