Abstract:Objective To explore the mediating effect of self-acceptance on social anxiety and mobile phone addiction among cadets. Methods The social anxiety scale,self-acceptance questionnaire and mobile phone addiction index scale were used to measure the mental health status of 496 cadets. The structural equation model and Bootstrap method were used to verify the potential mediating effect of self-acceptance.Results There was the likelihood of mobile phone addiction in 10.69% of the cadets, and the scores of social anxiety were negatively correlated with the scores of the self-acceptance factor and self-evaluation factor(r=-0.329,-0.370,P<0.01),but positively correlated with the mobile phone addiction scale scores (r=0.428,P<0.01) that were negatively correlated with the scores of the self-acceptance factor and self-evaluation factor(r=-0.297,-0.315,P<0.01).Structural equations showed that self-acceptance played a part in mediating social anxiety and mobile phone addiction(χ2/df=2.12,GFI=0.99,AGFI=0.97,NFI=O.98,CFI=0.99,RMSEA=0.04)Bootstrap test results showed that the mediating effect of self-acceptance was 0.23 (95%CI:0.12~0.48),and that the mediating contribution rate was 45.1%.Conclusions Self-acceptance has a mediating effect between social anxiety and mobile phone addiction. It is recommended that measures be taken to intervene in the level of social anxiety, improve the degree of self-acceptance,and reduce the tendency of mobile phone addiction among cadets.
