Abstract:Objective To explore the applicability of contents and mode of emergency rescue training for health care givers of China's Coast Guard in order to offer reference for the establishment of training systems and improve the ability of the Coast Guard to handle maritime emergencies. Methods One hundred health care providers from the Coast Guard who participated in short-term training in May 2019 were selected as the subjects, who received closed and systematic training on emergency rescue knowledge and skills before they took a test., The test scores of theories and manipulation before and after the training were compared. Results The trainees' scores of theories and manipulation related to emergency rescue were improved significantly, which increased from 77.95±7.15 and 6.59±1.24, before training to 85.27±5.76, and 7.67±0.89, respectively, after training. All the trainees reported that they had benefited greatly the short-term training. Conclusions Short-term closed and systematic training is a powerful measure to improve the support capacity of health care providers of the Coast Guard, so this approach should be adopted more widely.
