Abstract:Objective To study the effect of temporary cardiac pacemakers (TCPs) on perioperative complications due to internal carotid artery stenting (CAS). Methods A total of 84 patients treated with carotid artery stenting in our hospital between January 2014 to October 2019 were selected and divided into the pacemaker group and control group according to whether TCPs were used. The changes of blood pressure, heart rate and perioperative complications were analyzed. Results Heart rate decreased by [(16.57±5.65) beats/min] in the pacemaker group, which was lower than [(28.86±13.36)beats / min] in the control group. Blood pressure in the pacemaker group was [systolic pressure(49.81±16.86)mmHg, diastolic pressure(22.4±12.49)mmHg], which was also lower than [(57.81±17.79)mmHg, (30.19±12.26)mmHg] in the control group. The overall rate of complications in the pacemaker group was 9.52%, which was lower than 33.33% in the control group. Conclusions Carotid artery stenting combined with a pacemaker can significantly reduce the incidence of perioperative complications and ensure the safety of surgery.
