Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of contrast agent injection on the image quality of carotid artery CTA imaging through left and right elbow. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 100 patients who underwent head and neck CTA examination in the medical imaging department of Beijing Provincial Corps Hospital of Chinese People’s Armed Police Force from September 2019 to June 2021.Fifty patients who received contrast agent through the right elbow vein were in the right arm group, and the other fifty patients were in the left arm group. The CT values of bilateral carotid arteries and the excellent and good rate of venous development were compared between the two groups. Results The CT values of left common carotid artery in right arm group and left arm group were (335.25±20.67) Hu and (315.78±20.67) Hu, respectively, the CT values of right common carotid artery were (330.28±18.45) Hu and (313.56±19.45) Hu, respectively, and the difference was not statistically significant. The excellent and good rate of vein imaging in right arm group was 86.00%, which was higher than 63.00% in left arm group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusions Carotid CT angiography with right arm vein injection of contrast agent can reduce artifacts of superior vena cava, brachiocephalic vein and subclavian vein, and provide a reliable foundation for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
