Effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on supraspinatus tendinitis caused by training injuries

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy(ESWT) on supraspinatus tendonitis caused by training injuries.Methods A retrospective review was carried out with the registration of 236 patients who were treated by the same ESWT in Characteristic Medical Center were divided into non-calcified group (158 cases) and calcified group (78 cases).The VAS (Visual analog scale ) and Constant scores were compared between the two groups at different time(before treatment, the sixth and the twelfth month after treatment).Results At the sixth and the twelfth month after treatment, the VAS and Constant scores were notably improved in the two groups, and there was statistically differences (P<0.05).Besides, the VAS in calcified group was much lower than the non-calcified one, while the constant score was the opposite, and there was statistically differences (P<0.05).Conclusion Shockwave therapy can significantly alleviate the pain caused by training injuries and improve the function of affected shoulder, whose curative effect is much better to calcified supraspinatus tendonitis.
