Abstract Objective To study the effect of metoprolol on the pharmacokinetics of nifedipine in rats. Methods Twelve rats were randomly divided into two equal groups:A and B.Rats of group A were given nifedipine. Rats of group B were given nifedipine and metoprlol.Blood samples were taken from the animals for the determination of the plasma concentration of nifedipine by HPLC. Results The main pharmacokinetic parameters in the two groups were as follows: Cmax:（1291.69±248.26）and（1447.03±362.53）ng/ml, AUC0-t：（1883.70±68.17）and（1635.56±376.80）(ng·h)/ml,Vd/F：（34.19±10.52）and（35.5±8.79）L/kg, t1/2：（2.13±0.47）and（2.36±0.75）.The pharmacokinetic parameters of AUC0-t showed significant difference between the two groups (P
