Abstract Objective Using community periodontal index to estimate the correlation between general disease and paradentitis in gerontic patients with periodontal disease. Methods A total of 799 gerontic patients (age 60-70) who sought medical advice at the Armed Police General Hospital from January 2012 to January 2013 were randomly recruited to examine periodontal and physical medical history records and to analyze the correlation between periodontal disease and gerontic patients’ physical status. Results Correlation analysis showed for the gerontic patients that there was obvious correlation between periodontal disease and hypertension, diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease. Conclusions In the light of the close relationship between diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, hypertension and periodontitis’ development, besides conventional therapy of gerontic paradentitis, therapy of body chronic diseases and mental state are also necessary.
