Abstract Objective To study the levels of urinary vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) metabolite in children with Tourette ’s syndrome (TS) and its relationship with disease significance. Methods VMA levels in fresh urine of 40 Childrem with TS as study group and in 33 healthy children’s urine as normal controls were measured by high performance liquid chromatography coulometric electrochemical array, and urine creatinine (Cr) was used for correction. Results VMA/Cr value in urine of study group was (1.597±0.095)μg/mg, and VMA/Cr value in control group was (2.198±0.112) μg/mg. Value of VMA/Cr in urine of study group was significantly lower than that the control group(P<0.001) and mean values of VMA/Cr were not significantly different in the study group and control group between men and women. Conclusion VMA level is abnormal in with Tourette’s syndrome children.
