Expression and correlation of survivin and caspase-3 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma |

Abstract Objective To study the expression of a novel inhibitor gene of apoptosis survivin in cervical carcinoma and its association with the expression of caspase-3 protein. Methods Cervical squamous cell carcinoma specimens of 50 cases, CIN (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) in 20 cases, and normal cervical specimens of 14 cases were collected. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of survivin protein and caspase-3 protein in the above three cervical tissues. Results 1.The positive expression rates of survivin and caspase-3 were significantly different in different cervical tissues(P<0.05). 2.The positive expression of survivin was associated with high tumor grade and clinical stage (P<0.05). The positive expression of caspase-3 was only associated with tumor grade (P<0.05).3.The expression of survivin was negatively correlated to the expression of caspase-3 protein in cervix cancer. (P<0.05). Conclusions 1. The positive expression of survivin as a predictor of cervical carcinogenesis. 2. Strong posivive expression of survivin expression combined with weak expression of caspase-3, predicts poor prognosis of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
