AbstractObjective To study the relationship between hyperlipidemia and recurrence of BPPV in Chinese population. Methods A systematic literature search for hyperlipidemia and risk of BPPV recurrence in the Chinese population was carried out. The literature databases including Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, PubMed, Embase and Google Scholar. Time range was from the founding of each database to December 2015 and a total of 16 research papers were collected. Meta-analysis was conducted to calculate pooled odds ratio and corresponding 95%CI.Results Six studies were included in the meta-analysis, with a number of 944 BPPV cases. Hyperlipidemia did not show increase the risk of BPPV recurrence (OR=2.12,95%CI:0.77~5.89). Begg rank correlation method (Z=-0.98,P=0.383) and Egger regression (t=-0.44,P=0.680) Results showed that the meta-analysis does not have publication bias. Conclusions The present study cannot prove that hyperlipidemia is an independent risk factor for recurrence of BPPV.
