Abstract Objective To investigate and analyze blood pressure interacts with body weight in elderly outpatients. Methods 169 cases of the elderly people (aged ≥60 years) were recruited from January 1st to June 1st, 2015. The face-to-face survey about history of hypertension and related medical conditions was carried out. Then qualified nurses measure their height, weight and blood pressure. Results The proportion of women suffering from hypertension is 37/74, significantly higher than the proportion of the male population 31/95 (χ2=5.218,P=0.022). No statistically significance between different classification of body mass index and blood pressure (systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure) in male population (F=0.462,P=0.709;F=1.262,P=0.292). There has statistically significance between different classification of body mass index and blood pressure (systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure) in female population (F=2.401,P=0.075;F=2.343,P=0.081). No statistically significance between different group of waist and blood pressure (systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure) in male population (t=0.491,P=0.625;t=0.275,P=0.784). There has no statistically significance between different group of waist and systolic blood pressure (t=0.698,P=0.488), while there has statistically significance between different group of waist and diastolic blood pressure (t=2.201,P=0.031) in female population. Conclusions In female population, blood pressure in obese group is significantly higher than the non-obese group according to WC classification, suggesting that female abdominal obesity is an important risk factor for hypertension prompt.
