Epidemiological studies of military training-related injuries in recruits of the People's Armed Police Force in 2020 |

Abstract Objective To investigate the characteristics of military training-related injuries in recruits of the People's Armed Police Force (PAP) in 2020,and to provide data for the related prevention and intervention. Methods The incidence of military training-related injuries was investigated among a random sample of 4150 recruits during basic training in 2020 using questionnaires. The bone mineral density (BMD) in some recruits was also analyzed. Written informed consent was obtained from all the recruits. Results A total of 633 recruits suffered from military training-related injuries during basic training,and the total incidence of injures was 15.25%.The incidence of injuries as evidenced by six training sites of recruits and listed in descending order was 17.47%,17.02%, 15.23%, 14.60%, 14.11% and 11.60%, respectively. The dominating type of injury was osteoarticular injury (53.87%), followed by soft tissue injury (40.76%), injury from the special environment (4.9%), and organ damage (0.47%). Especially, BMD in 680 recruits was significantly lower than normal. Conclusions With the implementation of methods for scientific training and systematical prevention, military training-related injuries in recruits can be decreased as a whole.
