Observation of efficacy of local injection of α1b interferon combined with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy for multiple plantar warts |

Abstract Objective To observe the efficacy of local injection of recombinant human interferon α1b combined with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy for multiple plantar warts. Methods Eighty-three patients with multiple plantar warts from October 2019 to February 2021 were randomly divided into observation group (42 patients) and control group (41 patients) according to the random method. The patients in the observation group were treated with local injection of α1b interferon combined with liquid nitrogen freezing method, once every 2 weeks, and continued treatment for 8 weeks, while the patients in the control group were treated with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy and the treatment method and treatment time were the same as those in the control group. After the end of the course of treatment, both groups were followed up for 6 months, and the efficacy, pain tolerance index, recurrence rate and adverse reactions were observed and compared. Results Data from 4 cases (4.82%) who withdrew from the trial were excluded, and a total of 79 patients completed the trial. The total effective rate of the observation group was 89.74%, higher than that of the control group of 82.50% (P<0.05); 3 cases of the observation group withdrew from the trial due to pain intolerance, and 1 case form the control group, the pain tolerance of the control group was better than the observation group; after 6 months, the recurrence rate of the observation group was 15.38%, which was lower than 35.00% of the control group (P<0.05), there was no statistical difference in adverse reactions between the two groups, but the distribution of symptoms was different, the main symptom of the observation group was pain, while the main symptoms were infection and blisters in the control group, and there were no serious adverse reactions in both groups. Conclusions Local injection of α1b interferon combined with cryotherapy for multiple plantar warts is more effective than cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen alone, with low recurrence rate, especially for pain-tolerant patients.
