Optical design scheme of corneal shaping Lens on the vision of juvenile patients with myopia |

Abstract Objective To investigate the selection of the best optical design scheme of corneal shaping lens and its influence on the naked eye vision, astigmatism and near stereopsis of patients. Methods One hundred and twenty cases of myopia with astigmatism admitted from May 2020 to May 2021 in Hebei Provincial Eye Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the optical design of different types of corneal shaping lenses they wore, with 60 patients in each group. The patients in the control group wore corneal shaping lenses designed with spherical optics, while the patients in the observation group wore corneal shaping lenses designed with circular optics. UCVA, corneal astigmatism within 3mm area, mean corneal curvature, ocular axis, corneal eccentricity, equivalent spherical power (SE), central corneal thickness (CCT), tear film rupture time (BUT), corneal endothelial cell density (ECD) and near stereopsis were compared between the two groups before and after wearing glasses. Results Before wearing the glasses, there was no significant difference in the indexes of special examination between the two groups; After wearing glasses for 1, 6 and 12 months, the UCVA of patients in both groups decreased (P<0.05), which was higher in the observation group than in the control group; The astigmatism in the observation group was lower than that in the control group 12 months later (P<0.05); The mean corneal curvature decreased significantly and the ocular axis increased significantly (P<0.05). The mean corneal curvature and ocular axis in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05); corneal eccentricity in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). SE in observation group was lower than that in control group (P<0.05).At the end of 12 months, there were no significant differences in CCT, BUT and ECD between the two groups (P>0.05). The near stereopsis function of the observation group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions The corneal shaping lens designed with toroidal optics can effectively prevent the decline of naked eye vision, improve astigmatism, mean corneal curvature, eye axis, and corneal eccentricity, and help control the equivalent spherical lens power and near stereoscopic functional vision indicators.
