Application of dental endoscope combined with ultrasonic technique in minimally invasive treatment of distal surface caries of the second molar |

Abstract Objective To investigate the application of dental endoscope combined with ultrasonic technique in minimally invasive treatment of distal surface caries of the second molar. Methods A total of 36 affected teeth with distal surface caries of the second molar due to wisdom tooth impact were collected from 33 patients treated in the stomatology department of Beijing Friendship Hospital and Beijing Railway Construction Hospital of China Railway Construction Corporation from March 2022 to February 2023. Single-sided cavity preparation and filling were performed with the assistance of dental endoscope. The subgingival caries were removed by ultrasound, and high-strength glass ionomer cement was performed to fill closely. The clinical effect of 1 week, 1 month and 12 months after filling was observed. Results During the follow-up period, 1 tooth had filling body loss, 1 tooth had pulpitis, and the other 34 teeth had no secondary caries, no tooth splitting, no gingival bleeding,and the success rate was 94.4%. Conclusions The application of dental endoscopy combined with ultrasound in the treatment of distal surface caries of the second molar can maximize the preservation of healthy dental tissue and protect the gums.
