Clinical application of modified Shaoyao Gancao decoction combined with acupuncture in treatment of cancer pain |

Abstract Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of modified Shaoyao Gancao decoction combined with acupuncture in the treatment of cancer pain. Methods A total of 62 patients with malignant tumors accompanied by cancer pain admitted to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department of the First Medical Center of PLA General Hospital from January 2021 to December 2022 were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group (n=31). The control group was given opioid analgesics, while the treatment group was given modified Shaoyao Gancao decoction combined with acupuncture at Zusanli, Neiguan, and Hegu. The evaluation of pain efficacy, Karnofsky score, and adverse reactions were observed and compared between the two groups, and the changes of immune indicators after treatment were also compared. Results The pain relief rate of the treatment group(74.2%) was better than that of the control group(48.4%), and the difference was statistically significant (F=7.455, P<0.05). After treatment, the life quality of both groups was improved, and the improvement rate in the treatment group(90.3%) was better than that in the control group (58.1%), with statistical significance (F=4.781, P<0.05). In terms of immune function, the distribution of T lymphocyte subsets (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+) and the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ in both groups were improved after treatment, but there was no statistical difference between the two groups. Conclusions The combination of modified Shaoyao Gancao decoction and acupuncture can alleviate cancer pain, improve patients' quality of life, and enhance their immune function.
