Abstract:Objective To investigate the knowledge and use of antithrombotic and lipid-regulating medicines in Tangshan. Methods Using a self-designed questionnaire, a survey was conducted in a total of 635 patients with ischemic stroke by random sampling method in eight communities in Lunan and Lubei Districts. Unified analysis of the questionnaires was carried out. Results A total of 635 valid questionnaires were returned. The proportion of people who had some knowledge of and used antithrombotic agents was 89.3% and 61.4%, respectively while that of lipid regulatingagents was is 11.6% and 7.9%, respectively. Patients’ awareness rate of risk factors for their disease was low, and health care providers did not know much about these factors. Conclusions Awareness and use rates of antithrombotic medicine are significantly higher than those of lipid-regulating medicine in ischaemic stroke secondary prevention in Tangshan, but are still at a low level. More efforts should be devoted to knowledge popularization to facilitate secondary prevention.
