Effect of needling on the learning and memory ability, SOD and MDA of AD rats

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of needling Siguan and Zusanli (ST36) on the learning and memory ability, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) of model rats with D-galactose and sodium nitrite-induced Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Methods Forty SD male rats were selected and randomly divided into model group, control group, needling group and blank group (10 rats for each group). Except the blank group, other groups were modeled with intraperitoneal injection of d-galactose (120 mg/kg) and sodium nitrite (90 mg/kg) for a total of 6 weeks in sequence. 21 days after the modelling, the needling group underwent intervention treatment by needling Siguan and Zusanli, and the control group was subjected to lavage treatment of Donepezil suspension (0.45 mg/kg). After three courses, Morris water maze was used to test the learning and memory ability of the four groups, and ELISA was used to test the activity of SOD and MDA in the brain. Results After the treatment, compared with model group, needling group and control group have shorter average escape latency (P<0.01); more crossing times (P<0.05); significantly higher SOD activity (P<0.01) and lower MDA content (P<0.01). Conclusions Needling Siguan and Zusanli can improve the learning and memory ability of rats, increase SOD activity and reduce MDA content, featuring antioxidation and protecting neuron to delay senility.
