Abstract:Objective To analyze the correlation between the performance of military academy students’ 5000-meter runningand their maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max)so as to provide a basis for military academy to assess the aerobic endurance level of its students and to provide the training effect of 5000-meters running. Methods Body indexes of 67 students from the military academy were measured by cluster sampling method and theVO2max was indirectly calculated through PWC170 step experiments. Then regression analysis of the performance of 5000-meters running and VO2max was conducted. Results There existed a significant negative correlation between the time(Y) of 5000-meters running of took atest subject and the comparative VO2max(X) (r=-0.813,P<0.01), which could be expressed by linear equationsand quadratic curvilinear equation respectively as follows: Y=32.997-0.205X (r2=0.661,P<0.01);Y=56.067-1.147X+0.0094X2 (r2=0.686, P<0.01). Conclusions The level of comparative VO2max, to a great degree, determines the 5000-meters running performance of military academy students. Military academy students can increase their comparative VO2max by reducing the rate of body fat or some other indexes so as to accomplish the training purpose of improving their 5000-meters running performance.
