Abstract:Objective To study the clinical epidemiologic features of refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (rGERD). Methods The patients with GERD initially diagnosed by GerdQ≥8 in this GERD clinic from January 2013 to December 2013 were investigated in the prospective cohort study. Questionaires including demography characteristics and GERD questionnaire(GerdQ), reflux symptoms scale(RSS) along with Self-rating Anxiety scale(SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS) were used. After 4 weeks-PPI therapy of standard dose ( esomeprazole , 40mg, qd), all patients were divided into PPI-nonresponsive (namely rGERD ) group and PPI- responsive(control) group. All the data were input into database with EpiData 3.0 software and analyzed with SPSS 15.0 software. Results After treatment, 96 outpatients with GERD were divided into rGERD group (46 cases) and control group (50 cases). There was no significant difference in the age, gender, body mass index (BMI, kg/m2), symptoms (P>0.05) between the two groups. However, scores of GerdQ, RSS,SAS and SDS in patients with rGERD group were higher(P<0.01). Conclusion The demographic indicators have no differential diagnostic value in patients with rGERD, but the GerdQ, RSS,SAS and SDS scores are helpful in the diagnosis of rGERD.
