Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of placenta growth factor (PlGF) in lung tissue of chronic asthma rats. Methods Forty-five male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups. Rats in group A were given no special treatment.Rats in group B were sensitized with OVA and challenged with saline.Rats in group C were sensitized and challenged with OVA to establish a chronic asthma model. The expression of PlGF in BALF was detected using ELISA.Lung sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE), periodic acid Schiff (PAS), and Masson trichrome, and the images were analyzed morphometrically. The expression of PlGF in the airways was detected withimmunohistochemistry. Results The expression of PlGF in the airways of rats in group C was up-regulated more significantly than in group A and group B(*P<0.01, **P<0.01),and more significantly in BALF of chronic asthma rats (group C) than in group A and group B(P<0.05).Conclusions The expression of PlGF is upregulated in the lung tissue of chronic asthma rats.
