Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of iRoot BP apical barrier surgery in the treatment of periapical periodontitis combined with apical opening in adults. Methods 61 adult patients with apical periodontitis combined with open apical permanent teeth who were admitted in the Department of Stomatology of PLA General Hospital were divided into mineral trioxide aggregates group (MTA group,n=28) and iRoot BP group (n=33). The apical filling operation time and efficacy between the two groups were compared. Results The apical filling operation time in the iRoot BP group [(6.87±0.78) min] was significantly shorter than that in the MTA group [(10.42±1.77) min](P<0.01). The effective rates in the iRoot BP group and the MTA group were respectively 90.9% and 71.4%, whose difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions The clinical efficacy of the two groups is similar, but the operation time of chair-side treatment of the iRoot BP can be significantly shortened so it is a more ideal apical barrier material.
