Abstract：Objective To evaluate the effects of perioperative fast-track surgery programme on health economics in patients with gastric cancer. Methods Eighty-two patients were randomly allocated into two groups.The first group (n=41) as FTS group received a treatment of perioperative fast-track surgery programme and the second group (n=41) as control group received a conventional therapy. The postoperative hospital stay,hospitalization expenditure and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results The postoperative hospital stay was obviously shortened in FTS group compared with control group[(9.4±3.3) d vs (12.4±3.6) d,P=0.0002].Hospitalization expenditure in FTS group was lower than that in control group(P<0.0001).The complications were not significantly different between the two groups(P=0.232). Conclusions Perioperative fast-track surgery programme can accelerate postoperative rehabilitation and reduce the cost of medical treatment in gastric cancer patients.
