Abstract:Objective To study the clinical significance of CD34 expression levels and in atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, intraepithelial neoplasia and gastric carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect expression of CD34 in precancerous lesions and gastric carcinoma, CD34 staining positive microvessels were counted, the occurrence and development of gastric cancer in CD34 expression and its relationship with clinicopathological features of gastric cancer were studied. Results CD34 positive reaction showed brown granular substance, expressed as round, oval, cord-like, branched and irregular shapes. The densities of microvessels in normal gastric mucosa, atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, intraepithelial neoplasia, and gastric carcinoma, were 11.15±2.36,14.68±3.78,22.18±4.12,39.38±10.43, and 57.54±12.57, respectruely. The microressel densities in intraepithelial neoplasia and gastric careinoma were significantly higher than those in atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia (P<0.05). Expression of CD34 in gastric precancerous lesions and gastric carcinoma correlated with differential type of gastric carcinoma is lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). Conclusions The expression of CD34 in gastric carcinoma is significantly higher than that in precancerous lesions; Expresion of CD34 in atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, intraepithelial neoplasia and gastric cancer shows a gradually increasing trend, suggesting that abnormal expression of CD34 is closely related to the development of gastric cancer, and is expected to be a predictor of the development of gastric cancer.
