Personality traits of special operation staff and their impact on cognition

Abstract：Objective To investigate the personality traits of military personnel trained in a closed environment and the impact on cognition. Methods Personality traits were evaluated with 16PF, while the cognitive ability was assessed with MoCA. The association between personality traits and cognitive impairment was explored by means of analytical statistics. Results Cognition declined obviously one week after training in a closed environment (F=6.78,P＜0.01). The non-progressing mild cognition decline manifested itself mainly in inattention, delayed recall and worse visuospatial/executive-skills. Nine personality factors such as A in 16PF were related to cognitive impairment statistically (P＜0.05). Conclusions Cognition is affected by personality traits. It’s necessary to take targeted precautions to protect cognitive abilities according to personality traits.
