Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of cognitive therapy on improving stigma in patients with amputation. Methods Forty-eight patients of amputation (30 males and 18 females ) treated between October 2013 and October 2017 were randomized into two groups: the intervention group (cognitive therapy plus conventional nursing education, n=24)and the control group (conventional nursing education alone, n=24).Depression,anxiety,stigma and quality of life were compared between the two groups with scales. Results Age, gender and amputation sites were not significantly different between the two groups (P>0.05), but there was significant difference in levels of depression, anxiety, stigma and quality of life between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusions Cognitive therapy can not only reduce the stigma of patients with amputation effectively and boost their mood, but also help patients improve their quality of life.
