Abstract Objective To analyze the cause of lower respiratory tract sputum scab formation after laryngectomy with tracheotomy in order to seek effective nursing intervention methods. Methods Four cases with lower respiratory tract sputum scab formation were analyzed. Strengthened nursing intervention was adopted. Results Sputum scab formation was not repeated in four patients. Conclusion Correct evaluation of sputum, prompt and effective airway wet chemical methods, patients’ continued airway moist compliance, continuous wearing of the artificial nose, plenty of liquid intake, and better skills can effectively prevent sputum scab formation.
