Abstract Objective To explore the relationships between the functional status of the respiratory system and sICAM-1、sVCAM-1、E-selectin.Methods Two hundred and sixteen people who came to our center for physical examination were enrolled in this study. According to the functional status of the respiratory system assessed by the HRA system, these subjects were divided into the respiratory function normal group (group A), mild respiratory function group (group B), and the bronchial and respiratory inflammation group (group C). Fasting blood was collected in the early morning to obtain the serum for determination of levels of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (sICAM-1), soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (sVCAM-1), and E - select element (E-selectin).Results (1)Compared with group A, smoking increased the risk of changes in the respiratory function status in group B and C (OR=1.216, 95% CI: 0.6-2.466, OR=3.2, 95%CI: 1.502-6.819). (2)With the increasing inflammation of the respiratory function status, the concentrations of E-selectin, sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 significantly increased, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). (3) In group A, the concentrations of E-selectin, sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 were not significantly different between the smokers and non-smokers. In group B, the concentrations of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 were significantly higher among smokers than among non-smokers (P=0.437, 0.437, 0.000). In group C, the concentrations of E-selectin, sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 were significantly higher among smokers than among non-smokers(P<0.01).Conclusions With the increasing severity of the respiratory function status, concentrations of E-selectin, sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 are significantly increased. Levels of E-selectin, sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 in smokers’ serum tend to increase.
