Abstract Objective To evaluate the effects and safety of human-like collagen dressings combined with ultra pulsed fractional CO2 laser in the treatment of facial atrophic acne scars. Methods Seventy-six cases of facial atrophic acne scars treated between May 2015 and December 2016 in our hospital were randomly divided into the control group and the treatment group, with 38 cases in each. The control group was treated with ultra pulsed fractional CO2 laser four times, once every 3 months, while the treatment group was given a human-like collagen dressing for external use after laser stroke. Skin lesions were evaluated with ECCA. The scar score, duration of acute inflammatory erythema, duration of pain, time it took for a scab to form, the time taken by a scab to drop off, duration of delayed work and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the ECCA scores of the two groups of patients with atrophic acne scars were significantly lower, especially in the treatment group (P<0.05). The duration of erythema was (1.25±0.62) days and that of pain was (1.46±0.77) days in the treatment group, which were significantly shorter than those of the control group, so the difference was statistically significant(t=-2.483,P=0.015;t=-3.219,P=0.002). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the time it took to form a scab(t=-0.439,P=0.066). However, the time taken by a scab to drop off and duration of delayed work were shorter in the treatment group than in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (t=-3.049,P=0.003;t=-2.197,P=0.031). The subjective feeling and comfort level of the treatment group were better than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(Z=-2.197,P=0.028). The satisfaction rate of the patients in the treatment group was 68.42%, higher than that of the control group (44.74%), and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=4.338,P=0.037). The incidence of pigmentation in the treatment group was 5.26%, which was lower than that of the control group(21.05%), and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=4.145,P=0.042). There were no adverse reactions, such as blisters, infection or hypertrophic scars, in either group. Conclusions Combination with human-like collagen dressing can significantly improve the therapeutic effect of ultra pulsed fractional CO2 laser in patients with atrophic acne scars, shorten the duration of acute erythema and duration of pain, promote healing, shorten the duration of delayed work, reduce adverse reactions, alleviate patients’ postoperative discomfort and improve their quality of life.
