Abstract Objective To investigate whether the Helicobacter pylori ( Hp)infection rate and that of HpⅠ are different between short stature and normal children and whether Hp infections are related to short stature. Methods Forty-three short stature children treated at our growth and development clinic were selected as subjects, including 23 boys and 20 girls aged 3 to 14,with an average age of (6.77±3.08).The control group consisted of children of normal height who visited our clinic for health checkups, including 29 boys and 27 girls aged 3 to 14,with an average age of (6.67±2.70) years .Their height and weight were measured, while data on birth weight, gestational age, breast feeding, parents’ height, and food preferences was collected, while serum samples were collected and stored in the -80 ℃ refrigerator before being analyzed for Hp antibody and classified. Results The HpⅠinfection rate was different between short stature and normal children. The total Hp and HpⅡinfection rates were not significantly different between the two groups. Multifactor logistic analysis of height showed that food preferences were of statistical significance. Conclusions Although the HpⅠinfection rate is different between short stature and normal children, the Hp infection rate is not associated with children’s height growth.
