Abstract:Objective To study the safety and efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of fibroids. Methods One hundred and minety-six fibroids patients who had undergone RFA treatment in outpatient department were selected from November 2007 to Octcber 2011. The effective rate, vaginal bleeding during and after operation, temperature, abdominal pain, mensis and other serious complications which needed operation once again were retrospectively analyzed. Results In all the 196 cases, the total effective rate was 97.4%, the curative rate was 57.1%, the total effective rate of submucous myoma was 100%. The mild to moderate abdominal pain was endured during operation, and the pain disappeared in 4-6 hours after operation. The vaginal bleeding after operation lasted for 2-30 days, and in 91.9% of patients lasted within one week. Menses restored to normal in 1 to 3 months. Only 1 patient with severe anemia that was not corrected before operation was finally subjected to hysterectomy because of infection and hemorrhage after operation. Conclusions Ultrasound guided radiofrequency ablation is a safe, effective and simple method of treating fibroids and preserving the uterus.
