Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between olfactory dysfunction and eosinophila in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis. Methods 45 patients with ECRS, 29 males and 16 females, age range 23 to 65 with average 33.7. Olfactory function was evaluated by T&T method, mucosal tissue specimens were collected at the time of surgery and eosinophil counts were used to identify histologic feature. Spearman’s rank correlation was assessed. Results The olfactory dysfunction was observed in ECRS patients with 2.3±1.9 and correlated with eosinophil counts (253±102)/HP with(r=0.68,P<0.01). Conclusions The olfactory dysfunction in ECRS is correlated with eosinophil counts in olfactory nasal mucosa.
