Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between preoperative detection results of serum tumor markers carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9(CA19-9) and clinical pathological characteristics of patients with colorectal cancer(CRC).Methods The medical records of 475 CRC patients who had received radical surgery between January 2010 and April 2016 at our hospital were collected before thepreoperative serum CEA and CA19-9 test results, clinical pathologic staging results, and clinical data were statistically analyzed to study the correlation. Results Among the 475 patients, 198 cases of preoperative serum CEA tested positive (41.68%),so did 109 cases of preoperative serum CA19-9(22.95%). No correlation was found between the positive rates of CEA and CA9-9 and CRC patients’ gender, age, smoking history, intestinal obstruction, tumor location, tumor size, and histological type. The positive rates of CEA and CA19-9 were not only correlated with TNM stages, clinicopathologic stages, histologic tumor grade, tumor deposit and blood vessel invasion (P<0.05), but also positively correlated with TNM stages and clinicopathologic stages of CRC (P<0.05).Conclusions Preoperative serological detection of CEA and CA19-9 can facilitate the prediction of CRC clinical stages while provide clinical support for follow-up treatment and prognosis of patients with CRC.
