Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of health education during pregnancy on women’s choice of delivery manner. Methods A total of 457 pregnant women who received counseling in our hospital were randomly divided into two groups: the intervention group (n=237) and control group (n=220). Both groups received conventional health education. The intervention group additionally received systematic health education on delivery. Levels of knowledge of delivery, attitude and modes of delivery were compared between the two groups. Results There was significant difference between the two groups in their levels of pregnancy-related knowledge. The rate of literacy of labor analgesia in the intervention group was 94.5%, higher than 81.0% of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). 97.9% of the women in the intervention group opted for natural delivery, compared to 91.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusions Health education during pregnancy can reduce the rate or incidence of cesarean section.
