Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy(CBT) combined with acupuncture therapy in the treatment of senile chronic insomnia. Methods Eighty-six patients with senile chronic insomnia selected from Longfu Hospital, Shaojiu Community and Chaoyangmen Community between July 2017 to May 2018 were randomly divided into two groups: the test group(CBT with acupuncture therapy)and the control group(CBT alone). There were 43 cases in each group. After 8 weeks of treatment, sleep quality, mood and adverse reactions of these patients were evaluated with the sleep diary,Sleep Severity Index Scale(ISI).Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS) respectively. The data was statistically analyzed. Results The total effective rate in the test group was significantly higher than that of the control group(74% vs 49%,P<0.05).Compared to the control group, the sleep onset latency was significantly shortened in the test group [(27.5±9.8)vs(38.3±13.1)min,P<0.05],while sleep efficiency was increased markedly[(80.5±6.6)%vs(76.6±5.7)%,P<0.05].After combined treatment,SAS and SDS scores[(54.3±5.5) vs (58.9±5.7),(55.7±5.0) vs (58.2±4.8), both P<0.05] both decreased more significantly in the test group than those of the control group. Conclusions Acupuncture combined with CBT is more effective in the treatment of senile chronic insomnia.
